# What is R8

R8 is a market for opinions. Long or short any person or narrative — or launch your own market with two linked tokens, like **COOL** vs **SUCKS**.
Each side has unlimited upside, and markets never close.

*Figure: Two example markets trading by themselves: Ansem (ANSEM.COOL against ANSEM.SUCKS, paired with ANSEM) and Elon Musk (ELON.COOL against ELON.SUCKS, paired with SPCXx). Each card shows both sides’ market caps and the consensus, with a buy button per side.*

## Three things to know

- ### Two sides

Every market has two tokens. Buying one side lifts its price and pushes the other side down.
- ### No expiry

No end date, no oracle, nobody decides who’s right. You exit by selling, like a stock.
- ### Anyone can launch

Open a market on anything in about a minute — and earn from every trade on it.

## Pair with any asset

Each market’s pool holds one asset of your choice, and every price in it is quoted in that asset. Your position is held in it too, so you ride its price on top of your take.

## How you make money

Buy the side you believe in. If the crowd comes around, your side’s price rises. Sell to lock it in.

*Figure: Two market caps on the Ansem market: you buy COOL for $1,000, the crowd buys COOL and sells SUCKS, COOL climbs while SUCKS sinks, and you sell for about $1,681.81.*
